Privacy policy

What information this site handles, which services are involved and the choices you have. In short: the heights and names you enter stay in your own browser, and analytics and advertising follow the choices you make in the consent tool.

Who we are

Theme Park Height Guide (themeparkheightguide.com) is an independent guide to theme park ride height requirements, run by Diane Su, who is responsible for the personal data described in this policy (the data controller). What stays on your device

When you add a child's height, and a name if you choose to, the site saves it in your browser's local storage so that every page can use it. It does the same for the parks you viewed recently and for a record of your consent choices.

This information stays on your device. It is not sent to us, and you can delete it at any time by removing a child in the height panel or by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, which pages and tools families use, so that we know what to improve. It records things such as the pages you visit, your approximate location (country or city), your device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.

In the UK and the European Economic Area, Google Analytics only runs after you agree to it in the consent tool, and if you refuse it sets no cookies. Elsewhere it runs by default. Google processes this data on our behalf; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising

The site is free to use because it shows ads. Ads are served by Journey by Mediavine and its advertising partners, as described in full in the next section.

In the UK and the European Economic Area, Mediavine's consent tool asks for your choices on your first visit. You can change them at any time with the "Update privacy settings" link at the bottom of every page, or from our cookie page. If you refuse personalised advertising you will still see ads, but they will not be based on your browsing.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

  • Language of the website
  • Web browser type
  • Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

Contact form

If you send us a message or a correction through the contact form, we receive your name if you give one, your email address and what you wrote. The message is delivered to our inbox by Resend, an email delivery service. We use it only to reply to you and to check and apply corrections, and we delete it once it has been dealt with. We never add you to a mailing list.

Maps

Park and country pages show maps from OpenStreetMap. To draw them, your browser loads map images directly from OpenStreetMap's servers, which receive your IP address as part of each request. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web server, it keeps short-lived technical logs, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver the site and keep it secure. We do not use these logs to identify visitors.

Who receives data, and where

We never sell or rent personal data. The services named on this page (Google, Mediavine and its partners, Resend, Vercel and OpenStreetMap) may process data in the United States or in other countries outside the UK and the European Economic Area. Where they do, they rely on recognised safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension, or standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything done before.

You can also complain to a data protection authority: in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office; in France, the CNIL; in Spain, the AEPD.

Children

This site is written for parents and carers planning family visits. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Any child's name entered in the height panel stays on your own device.

We update this page whenever what the site does with data changes. The date below shows when it last changed.
