Two Very Different Kinds of Halloween
Almost every theme park does something for Halloween, but the name of the event tells you very little. "Fright" might mean pumpkins and a friendly trick-or-treat trail, or it might mean a scare maze that the park itself says isn't suitable under 16.
In practice parks run one of two things, and some run both:
- A family Halloween in the daytime: decorations, character shows, trick-or-treat trails, pumpkin patches and the usual rides. It is almost always included in a normal day ticket.
- A scare event: haunted houses, scare mazes and actors whose job is to make people jump. These usually carry an age recommendation (12+, 13+, 15+ or 16+), often need a separate ticket, and often run after dark.
Three questions sort one from the other: is there an age recommendation, is there a separate ticket for the scary part, and does it happen after dark? If the answer to all three is no, it's a family event.
Everything below was checked against each park's own website on 5 October 2026 (the Spanish parks on 10 October 2026). Parks do change dates and rules, so check the park's page before you book.

Two family events include something a little scarier:
- Lightwater Valley runs Frightwater Valley: Movie Mayhem on 10 and 17 October and through half-term (the park's own page gives both 23 and 24 October as the start), with a live scare maze it calls "not for the faint-hearted". No age limit is published.
- Pleasurewood Hills runs Pleasurewood Chills from 24 October to 1 November, including scare maze experiences with no published age guidance, and a firework finale on 1 November.
UK Scare Events and Their Age Limits
These are the events to plan around if you have small children, either by going on a different day or by keeping to the family areas.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Thorpe Park | Fright Nights | 2–4, 9–11 Oct, 15 Oct – 1 Nov | Scare attractions recommended for 13+; The Conjuring 4D Experience 15+ | Mazes are paid add-ons |

| Funland, Hayling Island | Halloween nights | 24 and 30 Oct, 5pm–9pm | None published | Ticket-only evenings |
A few details that matter with small children in tow:
- Scare actors don't always stay in the mazes. At Thorpe Park they roam the park during Fright Nights, and at Blackpool Pleasure Beach they appear in North Park from 6pm.
- Daytime isn't always scare-free. Fear Island's scare mazes at Fantasy Island run in the daytime (12–6pm) on most dates.
- Some events take over the whole venue. On Clacton FEAR nights you can't get onto the pier after 6pm without a FEAR ticket, but its family Halloween Festival runs by day from 24 October to 1 November. At Codona's, under-18s must be with an adult anywhere in the building on Friday and Saturday nights in October.
- Several parks run both. Flamingo Land has a daytime trick-or-treat trail (10am–4:30pm) alongside Stalk in the Park, and Twinlakes has a daytime Family Scream Park as well as the 14+ evenings.

Halloween in Spain
Spanish parks tend to run both kinds of Halloween in the same park on the same day: a family programme with shows and children's walk-throughs, and haunted walk-throughs (pasajes del terror) for older children and adults. Most parks give an age for each walk-through, which makes it easy to see which ones to skip.
Family events
| Park | Event | Dates (2026) | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| PortAventura Park | Halloween | 19 Sep – 15 Nov | 1, 2, 3… ¡Ya es Halloween!, with the Sesame Street characters, is "a show designed for the little ones". Truco o Trato is the park's first children's walk-through; under-12s go in with an adult |
| Parque Warner Madrid | Halloween | 26 Sep – 2 Nov | A new family quest, ACME Factory, with Wile E. Coyote, listed for children and families and free; Halloween parades and shows |
| Parque de Atracciones de Madrid | Halloween | 26 Sep – 1 Nov | Three children's walk-throughs (one new this year) with a recommended age of 3 to 12; children go in with an adult. Nickelodeon Halloween show |
| Terra Mítica | Halloween | 3 Oct – 1 Nov | Halloween shows and El Misterio de la Piedra de los Deseos, a children's walk-through with the park's mascots. Open 11am to 1am on 31 Oct |
| Isla Mágica | Halloween | 3 Oct – 8 Nov | Two children's walk-throughs, La Peste ¿Quién dijo miedo? and La cueva encantada, "especially recommended for children" and included in the ticket |
| Tibidabo | Halloween | 3 Oct – 8 Nov | The park bills its Halloween activities as "for all ages". The zombie show El Último Baile runs at dusk (8:30pm Saturdays, 7:30pm Sundays) and is included |
| Sendaviva | Halloween | 3 Oct – 15 Nov | Every Halloween attraction is labelled with an age and a fear level; four are for all ages with a low fear level, including the witch's train |
Scare attractions and their age limits
| Park | Event | Dates (2026) | Age guidance (as published) | Ticket |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PortAventura Park | Pasajes del terror | 19 Sep – 15 Nov | 12 with an adult, 14 alone (REC® Experience, Angkor, La Muerte Viva, and La Isla Maldita at Caribe Aquatic Park); the new scare zone La Maldición del Emperador is not recommended under 12 | Each walk-through costs extra, or buy a Halloween Passport bundle |
| Parque Warner Madrid | Pasajes del terror | 26 Sep – 2 Nov | La Monja, Crime Alley, IT Experience and Expedientes Warren are listed for ages 12 and up | Extra charge |
| Parque Warner Madrid | Halloween Scary Nights | 16 and 23 Oct (10pm–3am), 31 Oct (midnight–5am) | "Recommended for over-12s, accompanied"; under-18s are not allowed into the Slasher Royale experience | Separate ticket |
| Parque de Atracciones de Madrid | Pasajes de terror | 26 Sep – 1 Nov | El Templo de Shanarkai, El Viejo Caserón and Nosferatu are listed for ages 10 and up; no age published for The Walking Dead Experience | Included, except The Walking Dead Experience |

| Isla Mágica | Pasajes del terror | 3 Oct – 8 Nov | Recommended for over-12s, under-14s with an adult; the two outdoor scare zones are not recommended under 8 | Included, except Ad Bestium |
| Tibidabo | Hotel 666 | 3 Oct – 8 Nov | Recommended for over-8s | Included |
| Sendaviva | Halloween attractions | 3 Oct – 15 Nov | Four with a "high" fear level from age 5, three "very high" from age 8; under-16s with an adult | Not stated |
Two things to know about the Spanish parks:
- Most ages are recommendations. The parks mostly write "recomendado" (recommended) or "no recomendado" (not recommended). Terra Mítica's Horror Nights and Parque Warner's Slasher Royale are the exceptions: there the park doesn't let in under-14s and under-18s respectively.
- Scare zones come out late in the day. Parque de Atracciones de Madrid lists its Área 51 scare zone for teenagers and adults, and Parque Warner's new Dionesium Escape scare zone runs only on days the park is open until midnight and during Scary Nights.

At the time of writing, Motiongate and Yas Waterworld had not announced their 2026 Halloween events.
What Your Child Can Ride on a Halloween Visit
A Halloween event doesn't change a ride's height rules. These are the parks with a family Halloween event that have the most rides a 100cm child can go on (with an adult where the park allows it):
| # | Park | Rides at 100cm | All rides | Share | Region |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Paultons Park | 37 | 41 | 90% | Hampshire |
| 2 | Parc du Petit Prince | 34 | 35 | 97% | Grand Est (Haut-Rhin) |
| 3 | Crealy Adventure Park | 34 | 38 | 89% | Devon |
| 4 | Drayton Manor | 34 | 46 | 74% | Staffordshire |
| 5 | Gulliver's Valley | 33 | 35 | 94% | South Yorkshire |
| 6 | Nigloland | 32 | 39 | 82% | Grand Est (Aube) |
| 7 | Disneyland Paris | 30 | 38 | 79% | Île-de-France (Seine-et-Marne) |
| 8 | Watermouth Castle | 29 | 30 | 97% | Devon (North Devon) |
| 9 | LEGOLAND Windsor Resort | 29 | 32 | 91% | Berkshire |
| 10 | PortAventura Park | 29 | 45 | 64% | Catalonia |
| 11 | Dennlys Parc | 26 | 32 | 81% | Hauts-de-France (Pas-de-Calais) |
| 12 | Futuroscope | 26 | 47 | 55% | Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Vienne) |
Expect fewer water rides in October. Outdoor water rides at UK and French parks often close in cold weather or for the season, so check what's running on the day. For the bigger milestones, see what opens up at 90cm and at 110cm.
Tips for a Halloween Visit With Small Children
- Go in the daytime. Family events run by day, and the scarier parts mostly start at dusk. If a park has late openings, the rides in the dark are fun, but that's also when the scare actors come out at the parks that have them.
- Look at the map before you set off. Parks with scare mazes usually mark them clearly. At Parc Bagatelle the park is split into a family zone and a scarier zone; at Flamingo Land and Twinlakes the scare events are separate evening tickets.
- Use the badges where they exist. Parc Astérix and Nigloland hand out anti-monster badges so the roaming monsters leave the wearer alone. At Parc Astérix they don't work inside the haunted houses.
- Plan for the dark and the cold. October afternoons get chilly and dark early. Pack warm layers, and a small torch (Amazon) helps on the walk back to the car after a late opening.
- Expect half-term crowds. Halloween events peak in the last week of October, when schools are off. Arrive at opening and do the rides that matter to you first.
- Measure in the shoes they'll wear. Wellies and boots have different soles from trainers, and the ride host measures at the entrance. Our guide to being just under a height limit explains what helps.
Frequently asked questions
Is Fright Nights at Thorpe Park suitable for young children?
The scare attractions are recommended for ages 13 and over, and The Conjuring 4D Experience for 15 and over. Scare actors roam the park during Fright Nights, so with small children it's better to visit on a non-event day.
Is Scarefest at Alton Towers suitable for young children?
The park says its scare mazes are "designed for ages 12+ or 15+", and they cost extra. With small children, plan the day around the family areas, skip the mazes and check the event map for where the scare zones are.
Is Halloween at Disneyland Paris scary?
No. The park's FAQ describes the Festival Halloween Disney as suitable for the whole family, and everything is included in the ticket.
What age is Peur sur le Parc at Parc Astérix for?
The daytime event is open to everyone, but the haunted houses are not advised under 14 (Le Tombeau des Dieux) or under 16 (the other three). The night events need their own ticket.
Is Halloween at PortAventura suitable for young children?
The daytime programme is. There are shows for small children and Truco o Trato, a children's walk-through that under-12s do with an adult. The pasajes del terror cost extra, and the park lets children in from 12 with an adult and from 14 on their own.
Which theme parks have Halloween fireworks?
Drayton Manor (31 October and 1 November), Gulliver's Kingdom (31 October), Camel Creek (28 October), Lightwater Valley (31 October) and Pleasurewood Hills (1 November) all list Halloween fireworks in the UK. In France, La Récré des 3 Curés and Walygator Sud-Ouest end their late openings with fireworks, and Nigloland's evening show has them too.
